Despite their massive mandate, the Albanese government is already siding with the fossil fuel lobby — greenlighting massive polluting fossil fuel projects like Woodside’s North West Shelf.
And the Coalition, although weakened, have the backing of the fossil fuel lobby and extremist groups like Advance, and are gearing up to take back ground from independents.
A strong independent crossbench will be critical to holding the major parties to account, and showing them that they will face serious electoral penalties for failing to meet the urgency of the climate crisis.
