From Winter Olympics bronze medallist to work as a solicitor and barrister, Zali’s career has been marked by determination and principled advocacy. Zali’s frustration with Australia's climate inaction inspired her political bid in 2019 when she took on, and defeated, former prime minister Tony Abbott.
Zali won office without Climate 200 funding, but Climate 200 is proud to have supported Zali in 2022 and 2023. Zali believes Climate 200 plays a vital role in the David-and-Goliath battles independents wage against the major parties.
In federal parliament, Steggall’s landmark Climate Change Bill helped consolidate the national consensus on net-zero emissions. She was instrumental in securing the National Anti-Corruption Commission and has championed other political integrity reforms, including a push for laws to ensure truth in political advertising.
Zali holds regular forums and collaborates closely with the Warringah community, and continues to champion her electorate's views in parliament. She proposes smart solutions to today’s challenges – from taking climate action and addressing disaster risks, to achieving social equity and reenergising Australia’s economy.
Climate 200 is proud to have supported Zali in 2022 and 2023.
